India sees sevenfold increase in daily deaths in a month

India's record is beyond dismal when it comes to the total number of deaths recorded in the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. There has been a sevenfold increase in deaths reported in last one month. The country has seen over 50,000 deaths in the last 20 days alone.

India's Data Intelligence Unit (DIU) has found that if you take May 1, 2020, as the beginning of the first wave of Covid-19, the number of deaths reported on this day was 77. Compare this with 118 on February 1, 2021, considered the beginning of the second wave.

Video: Vijay takes oath as Tamil Nadu CM amid loud cheers and chants

TVK leader C Joseph Vijay on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu amid a sea of supporters, his friends and family, and several political leaders. Eight other TVK leaders were sworn in besides him, as ministers in the new government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attended the ceremony.
