India reported 62,258 coronavirus on Saturday, the highest single-day rise so far this year. With fresh cases, the nationwide Covid-19 tally has mounted to 1,19,08,910, according to the Union Health Ministry's data.
India's active caseload has increased to 4,52,647, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,12,95,023.
Meanwhile, the total number of deaths due to the infection increased to 1,61,240 with 291 more fatalities reported in India in the last 24 hours, the ministry said.

TVK leader C Joseph Vijay on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu amid a sea of supporters, his friends and family, and several political leaders. Eight other TVK leaders were sworn in besides him, as ministers in the new government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attended the ceremony. The TVK managed to secure the Governor's nod to form the government after the Congress, the CPI, the CPI(M), the VCK, and IUML extended their support to the Vijay-led party for a colaition government.
