IIT Roorkee allows provisional JoSAA seat allocation for CBSE students below 75% marks

IIT Roorkee has said students awaiting revised Class 12 marks can continue in JoSAA counselling and receive seat allotments. The clarification gives candidates time till 15 July to submit updated scorecards that restore eligibility.

JEE Advanced 2026: IIT Roorkee allows seat allocation for CBSE students below 75% marks

Thousands of engineering aspirants awaiting revised board exam results have received some relief from IIT Roorkee.

In a post on X, the institute clarified that students who currently do not meet the Class 12 eligibility criteria for admissions to IITs can still participate in the counselling process and fill their choices through JoSAA.

The clarification comes days after concerns were raised by students, particularly from CBSE, who claimed that evaluation issues and pending re-evaluation requests could affect their eligibility for admission despite securing strong ranks in JEE Advanced.

COUNSELLING CAN CONTINUE

IIT Roorkee stated that candidates with less than 75 per cent marks in Class 12 (for General, OBC-NCL and EWS categories) and less than 65 per cent marks (for SC, ST and PwD categories) should not worry about being excluded from counselling at this stage.

According to the institute, such candidates can continue to fill their choices and will be considered for seat allocation based on their JEE Advanced rank.

This means students will remain part of the admission process even if their board marks are currently below the required threshold.

THE JULY 15 DEADLINE

The institute has, however, set a clear condition.

Students whose marks improve after verification, scrutiny or re-evaluation must submit their revised scorecards by July 15, 2026, through the official email address provided by the organising institute.

IIT Roorkee said candidates should send updated mark sheets to orgjee@iitr.ac.in if their revised results meet the eligibility criteria applicable to their category.

HOW ADMISSION WILL WORK

The institute explained that seats will be allotted according to candidates' ranks during the counselling process.

Once a revised scorecard meeting the eligibility requirement is submitted and verified, admission will be granted to the seat allotted to the candidate at the end of the fourth round of counselling.

The post read, "On receipt of the same, admission will be given to whichever seat is allocated to you at the end of 4th round."

The clarification is significant because many students have been awaiting the outcome of board re-evaluation processes while simultaneously participating in engineering admissions.

A BALANCING ACT

The move allows students to remain in the admission race without changing the eligibility rules themselves.

Earlier, IIT Roorkee had ruled out any relaxation in the 75 per cent criterion, stating that admissions involve candidates from 36 different education boards.

The latest clarification provides a practical solution for students whose revised board marks may restore their eligibility before the admission process concludes.
