'War of Sardars' reignites in poll-bound Punjab after CM Channi's brother denied ticket

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi’s brother Manohar Singh was denied a ticket to contest the upcoming Assembly polls.

Manohar Singh, who had resigned as senior medical officer from Kharar civil hospital, was eyeing to contest from Bassi Pathana.

The Congress is instead fielding sitting legislator Gurpreet Singh GP from the Bassi Pathana Assembly seat. This has given rise to a "War of Sardars" in the state with CM Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu taking on each other indirectly.

A miffed Manohar Singh said he would be fighting the elections as an independent candidate.

Video: Vijay takes oath as Tamil Nadu CM amid loud cheers and chants

TVK leader C Joseph Vijay on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu amid a sea of supporters, his friends and family, and several political leaders. Eight other TVK leaders were sworn in besides him, as ministers in the new government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attended the ceremony.
