Vijay Varma's Matka King has officially been renewed for a second season after the success of Season 1. The OTT platform has confirmed the announcement on social media with a new poster teasing the next chapter of the crime drama.

After the success of its first season on Prime Video, Matka King is officially returning for Season 2. Starring Vijay Varma, the crime drama became one of the platform’s most-watched shows, leading the makers to announce a new season.

On Thursday, the OTT platform announced the renewal on social media by unveiling a new poster featuring Vijay Varma holding playing cards marked with the number “2”.

Alongside the poster, the streaming platform wrote, “Shuffling the cards for season 2 (sic).”

The announcement follows the remarkable performance of Season 1.

According to Prime Video, Matka King Season 1 became the most-watched new scripted show on the platform in the last two years. The series also entered the Top 10 trending list in 37 countries and secured the number one position in 17 countries within its opening week.

About Matka King Season 1

Set in 1960s Mumbai, the first season revolved around an ambitious cotton trader determined to earn respect and legitimacy. His journey leads to the creation of a gambling game called ‘Matka’, which soon transforms the city’s betting culture and expands a business once dominated by the rich and powerful.

The show received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, with Vijay Varma’s performance earning praise from viewers as well as celebrities including Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal and Karan Johar.

The series was created and written by Abhay Koranne, while Nagraj Popatrao Manjule served as creator, writer and director. Season 1 was produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, Gargi Kulkarni, Ashwini Sidwani and Ashish Aryan under Roy Kapur Films, Aatpat and SMR Entertainment.

Apart from Vijay Varma, the series also featured Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat and Gulshan Grover in key roles. The ensemble cast further included Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishor Kadam, Cyrus Sahukar, Arpita Sethiya, Sambhaji Tangade, Ishtiyak Khan, Sanjivv Jotangia and Simran Ashwini.
