20 best films of Shah Rukh Khan

The Badshah of Bollywood, SRK, has acted in over 70 Hindi films in genres ranging from romantic dramas to action thrillers. His eight Filmfare Best Actor Award wins make him the most-awarded Bollywood actor of all time in that category, tied only with Dilip Kumar.

In 2005, Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri for his contributions to Indian cinema. We take a look at some his best work till now:

Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992)
Khan plays Raj Mathur, a young engineering graduate from Darjeeling, who comes to Mumbai with only one ambition - to become a big engineer.

Baazigar (1993)
In a negative role superbly played by SRK, he portrayed a murderer. Inspired by the novel A Kiss Before Dying, it was a contemporary thriller about a young man who stops at nothing to get what he wants.

Darr (1993)
In the film Darr, he played another negative role. SRK essayed the role of an obsessive lover of Juhi Chawla and the lengths to which he goes to get the girl who is already engaged.

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993)
SRK played the role of a young musician. It was a rare film where the hero played the role of a loser. It is considered one of Khan's best performances, and he has said that it is his favorite film.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
SRK-Kajol starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was destined to create history and did so. The film was declared an all-time blockbuster and it remains as the longest-running film in the history of Indian cinema. As of 2012, it is still playing at the Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai. This film also established SRK-Kajols pair as the most lovable on-screen pair.

Yes Boss (1997)
The romantic-comedy film is about Rahul (SRK), a middle class man, who helps his boss deal with his extra-marital affairs to get extra income and to earn status for himself. But he eventually falls in love with his Bosss girlfriend (Juhi Chawla) and how his life takes a turn.

Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
The film depicts the love story of dancers in a musical dance troupe and how they fall in love and how their story twists during a live musical play. The tag line of the film was "Someone somewhere is made for you..."

Pardes (1997)
The film was based on NRI people who look out for young Indian women to marry. Ganga (Mahima) travels abroad and gets the culture shock face and difficulties with her fianc and how SRK helps her out and eventually falls in love. This was one of the first major Bollywood films to do well in America.

Dil Se (1998)
Shah Rukh's stellar performance in Dil Se is a journey through the seven shades of love. The different shades are described as attraction, infatuation, love, reverence, worship, obsession and death. As the film progresses, SRK's character portrays each shade in the film with heart-touching emotions.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
The film is Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's fourth film together. The love story revolves around the college years of Anjali (Kajol) who was in love with her best-friend Rahul (SRK), but he falls in love with Tina (Rani) who dies later. Years later, Rahuls daughter tries to reunite her father and Anjali.

Mohabbatein (2000)
SRK plays a college teacher who helps three guys to get their love and fighting against the college principal. The film earned him Filmfare Award for the Best Actor. This was the first film in which Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh appeared together, which created lot of buzz in the industry.

Devdas (2002)
A tragic story of a loser lover which helped Shah Rukh Khan won a Filmfare Award. The film was recently included in Time Magazine's top 10 films of the millennium worldwide.

Chalte Chalte (2003)
The love story is about Raj (SRK) and Priya (Rani Mukherji) who came from two different strata of society and how they fall in love but lose each other with their differences.

Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)
The film narrates the story of an uptight student, Naina Kapur (Preity Zinta), who falls in love with her neighbour, Aman Mathur (Shahrukh Khan), a terminally ill patient. Meanwhile, Aman who loves Naina but cannot marry her tries to play matchmaker for her and her friend, Rohit Patel (Saif Ali Khan).

Swades (2004)
A story about a successful Indian scientist Mohan Bhargava (SRK) who returns to his village in India to take his nanny to America and while his stay in India how he rediscovers his roots and decides to stay back in his own country and the serve the nation. Swades was the first Indian film to be actually shot inside the NASA research center in Florida. Most of the critics felt that this was SRK's best performance till date.

Veer-Zaara (2004)
This love story across border was beautifully shot between Veer Pratap Singh, an Indian air-force officer and Zaara Hayaat Khan, a Pakistani.

Don (2006)
SRK played the title role in the remake of 1978 Big B starrer Don. This role transformed SRK into the new age Don and was appreciated by the audience.

Chak De India! (2007)
SRK played the role of Kabir Khan, an ousted national hockey player who puts in all his efforts to coach the Indian women's hockey team and win the World Cup.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)
SRK plays a sad government officer Surinder Sahni, who somehow gets married to vivacious Taani (Anushka Sharma), who is not in love with him. To get her love Surinder Sahni transforms himself into this loud and fun-loving Raj and becomes her dancing partner in the competition.

My Name Is Khan (2010)
SRK plays a Muslim man Rizwan Khan, who suffers from the Asperger syndrome, who wants to meet the US President and convey that all Muslims are not terrorists. The film was shot in the backdrop of 9/11 in America. This role earned SRK the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
