Good news: Kolkata all set for India's first underwater metro services

India's first underwater river tunnel is almost ready. As part of the east-west corridor, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRCL) has dug tunnels below the Hooghly River to lay train tracks.

The 16.6-km Kolkata East West Metro will ferry an estimated one million passengers per day by 2035. The 520-metre twin tunnel, one east-bound and the other west-bound, is built 30 metres below the riverbed and will connect Kolkata to Howrah.
