Bhupesh Baghel's son arrested in Chhattisgarh liquor 'scam' case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Chaitanya Baghel, the son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in connection with an alleged multi-crore liquor scam. The arrest followed raids conducted at their premises. The investigation centres on a scam that allegedly ran from 2019 to 2022, purportedly generating over ₹2000 crore in illegal earnings. Reacting to the arrest, Bhupesh Baghel highlighted the timing, stating, '...aaj mere bete ka janmadin hai us din ko kiya Gaya' (today is my son's birthday and he has been arrested on this day), suggesting a pattern of political targeting. This action is seen as a significant blow to the Congress in the state, with party leaders gathering at the court in solidarity with Chaitanya Baghel, who was due to be presented by the ED.
