Like the Ajay Devgn movie: Supreme Court refuses bail to man who killed bride-to-be
The Supreme Court refused to entertain Sagar's bail plea in the 2020 Meerut shooting case. The bench made sharp remarks on the allegations before allowing him to withdraw the petition.

The Supreme Court has refused to entertain a bail plea filed by a man accused of killing a woman and her father over an alleged case of one-sided love, with the bench drawing parallels of the murder to an Ajay Devgn film.
A bench led by Justice Vikram Nath was hearing the plea of Sagar, the main accused in a 2020 shooting incident in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, in which a bride-to-be and her father were killed just days before her wedding.
"My God! You killed the girlfriend. You killed the father-in-law, brother-in-law, everyone. You are a daredevil. Haven't you seen that movie, Bihar one with Ajay Devgn," Justice Nath remarked during the hearing.
"You're a girlfriend killer... this is like a movie," he further observed.
Justice Nath appeared to be referring to the 2006 thriller film, 'Omkara', in which Devgn's character Omi kills his wife Dolly, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, suspecting her of having an affair with his trusted lieutenant.
The film was an adaptation of Othello by William Shakespeare.
The remarks came as the Supreme Court was hearing a challenge to the denial of bail by the Allahabad High Court. However, after indicating that it was not inclined to grant relief, the Supreme Court declined to entertain the plea.
The accused's counsel subsequently sought permission to withdraw the petition, enabling him to approach the High Court again at an appropriate stage.
The Supreme Court allowed the withdrawal.
WHAT IS THE CASE
The case stems from an FIR lodged in Meerut in June 2020 by the brother of the woman who was killed.
According to the prosecution, the accused was allegedly obsessed with the woman and had been stalking her due to what investigators described as a case of "one-sided love."
According to the police, two days before the woman's scheduled wedding to another man, Sagar and several associates arrived at her house and opened fire on family members.
The attack allegedly left the bride-to-be and her father dead. Several other members of the family sustained injuries in the shooting.
Following the incident, Sagar was arrested and has remained in judicial custody since 2020.
According to court records, he was around 18 years old at the time of the alleged offence.
