The Supreme Court has sought a report from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) on the action taken against the alleged commercial use of residential land, while expressing concern over claims that showrooms, salons and boutiques were operating illegally in an area designated exclusively for housing.

The court made the remark while hearing a petition filed by city-based real estate company Rajdarbar Pinkcity Developments Private Limited.

The petitioner has alleged that several commercial establishments are functioning from plots designated for residential use in Chimanpura village in Jaipur's Bhankrota area, in violation of planning and zoning norms.

According to the petition, the area is classified as a residential zone, yet a range of commercial activities are allegedly being carried out there.

The company has claimed that boutiques, furniture showrooms, beauty salons and ready-made garment stores are operating from residential properties, amounting to unauthorised commercial encroachment.

The petitioner has urged the Supreme Court to direct the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Greater) and other concerned authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and initiate action in accordance with the law against any violations found.

During the hearing, the court questioned the Jaipur Development Authority over the enforcement of zoning regulations.

The court sought details of the concrete steps taken by the authority to address the alleged misuse of residential land and asked for an action-taken report.
