Kumbh Mela: Devotees flock to Haridwar to participate in 'Shahi Snan'

Lakhs of devotees from across the country gathered on the ghats of Haridwar to take a dip in river Ganga on Wednesday as part of the ongoing Kumbh Mela.

Lakhs of people participated in the third shahi snan of the Kumbh Mela on Wednesday. This was despite a rapid surge in Covid-19 cases across India.

Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Om Prakash said the number of devotees at the third shahi snan was much less than expected due to the pandemic.

During the last edition of the Kumbh mela in 2010, about 1.6 crore people had bathed in the Ganga at Haridwar.

So far, 19 people have tested positive after coming back from the mela site.
