A forest fire rages in the Kurangani forest region in Tamil Nadu's Theni district. 15 people have been injured. From a distance, a long, thin blazing line runs can be seen running from the top the bottom of a hill. This, and all other photos in this series, are stills from videos obtained by India Today TV reporter Akshaya Nath.

A man who travelled uphill to rescue the students filmed a close-up video. As many as 10-15 students have already been rescued, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.

This image, taken from the foot of the hill, gives us an idea of the scale of the fire.
