AAP sarpanch Harbinder Singh shot dead at a wedding in Punjab's Tarn Taran

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch Harbinder Singh was shot dead during a wedding function in Punjab's Tarn Taran district.  The victim, who served as the sarpanch of Thathian Mahanta village, was targeted by assailants who reportedly used an AK-47 assault rifle. Meanwhile, the Landa Harike gang has claimed responsibility for the killing, citing it as revenge for a 2024 extortion complaint filed by Singh against Sukhwinder Noni. During the attack, Singh's cousin, Jarmandeep Singh, was also critically injured while attempting to intervene. The incident has sparked a political row, with opposition leaders like Bikram Singh Majithia criticising the state government over the deteriorating law and order situation. This marks the second such killing of an AAP sarpanch at a wedding in the border district within two months, following the murder of Jarmal Singh in January. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
