Police alleged that the woman staged dramatic mourning after helping kill her husband, his mother, second wife and relative over a family dispute

She sat among grieving women, beat her chest, screamed in agony and pretended to faint as relatives mourned four horrific deaths in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district.

But police now say the woman leading the mourning was herself the mastermind behind the massacre.

In a chilling case that has stunned Rajasthan, four members of a family, including a former sarpanch, were allegedly murdered before their bodies were set ablaze inside a Scorpio SUV in an attempt to pass the killings off as an accident.

The gruesome quadruple murder came to light in Ajmer’s Borada police station area after villagers spotted a burning Scorpio on a highway in Shrirampura village, around 60 km from Ajmer city and nearly 500 metres from the former sarpanch’s house.

Inside and around the charred vehicle were four bodies. Three burnt bodies were found inside the SUV, while another body was recovered from a nearby field, police said.

The deceased were identified as former sarpanch Ram Singh Choudhary, his mother Poosi Devi, second wife Suryagyan Devi and Mahima Chaudhary, the daughter of his aunt.

According to Ajmer SP Harsh Vardhan Agarwala, the killers allegedly transported the bodies from the house before placing them inside Ram Singh’s Scorpio and setting it ablaze to destroy evidence.

Investigators initially suspected a tragic accident. But as forensic experts and police teams began examining the scene, disturbing inconsistencies started emerging.

“The bodies had injuries that suggested foul play. Scientific evidence and local inputs gradually exposed the truth,” an officer involved in the probe said.

While police investigated the burning vehicle outside, Ram Singh’s first wife Sunita remained at home surrounded by women from the village, crying uncontrollably and pretending to collapse in shock.

Police say it was all an act. “She was wailing loudly as if devastated by the tragedy. Nobody suspected her initially,” a police official said.

When police first reached Ram Singh’s house, Sunita allegedly told officers that Ram Singh had taken his mother to the hospital after she complained of chest pain.

Investigators later discovered that Ram Singh and Sunita had been involved in a long-running domestic dispute linked to his second marriage. The deceased reportedly lived together in the same house with both wives.

“Ram Singh had two wives, and there was a dispute in the family on this matter. Our investigation revealed that the first wife and her children had a scuffle with Ram Singh and his mother,” SP Agarwala said.

Police said tensions escalated late on Wednesday night during a heated argument inside the house, which allegedly turned deadly.

According to investigators, Sunita allegedly joined hands with her daughter Sarita and her minor son to carry out the killings using sharp-edged weapons. The victims were allegedly attacked inside the house before the bodies were loaded into the SUV and set on fire on the highway to make the deaths appear accidental.

As officers pieced together forensic evidence, technical inputs and statements from villagers, suspicion rapidly narrowed towards the family itself.

“Small pieces of information from villagers and technical evidence exposed the entire conspiracy,” SP Agarwala said.

Police have detained Sunita along with her two children and are questioning them about the murder weapons and the sequence of events. Further investigation is underway.

The brutality of the killings and the alleged attempt to deceive police through staged mourning have left residents of the area horrified.

Police now claim they were watching the alleged killer perform.
