Kerala communist leader is talk of town after buying Rs 50-lakh Mini Cooper
A trade union leader in Kerala is facing criticism for buying a luxury car worth Rs 50 lakh. PK Anil Kumar -- the leader in question -- has claimed that the car was bought by his wife, an employee of the Indian Oil Corporation.

A communist trade union leader in Kerala has become the subject of animated conversations in the state after buying a Mini Cooper car worth Rs 50 lakh. PK Anik Kumar, whose pictures standing next to a Zesty Yellow Cooper S have gone viral, is the state secretary of the Petroleum and Gas Workers Union.Â
A senior journalist mocked the communist leader, saying Anil Kumar intends to study how capitalists live by buying a Mini Cooper.Â
"Comrade Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had also done a study on this," he wrote in Malayalam, referring to Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, a leader of the ruling CPIM, who in 2017 had courted controversy for campaigning in a red Mini Cooper that belonged to a gold smuggling case accused.Â
"Why do all comrades love Mini Cooper," asked another person on Facebook. "How can he get away with saying that his wife has a job," another said.Â
In defence, Anil Kumar claimed that the car was bought by his wife, who is an employee at the Indian Oil Corporation. Â
Anil Kumar is not new to controversies. He is facing a case for insulting and threatening a woman entrepreneur over her caste.Â
Representatives from Anil Kumar's trade union told local media that they have not received any complaints on the matter but will look into it.
