Woman, ex-boyfriend kill her new lover, dump body in sack; notebook cracks case
A man was allegedly killed by the ex-boyfriend of a woman he had met on social media. Investigators said a notebook provided the clue that helped unravel the case.
A woman, her ex-boyfriend and his associate have been arrested in Madhya Pradesh for their alleged involvement in the murder of a man she met on social media. The police have supposedly found that the killing arose from romantic jealousy. Interestingly, a child's notebook became the clue that led the police to the accused.
The victim has been identified as Pappu alias Veeru Jaat, a resident of Rajasthan. His body was found stuffed inside a gunny sack under a bridge in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district, the police said.
The man's hands and legs were tied, and his mouth was taped shut. The body was found in a severely decomposed state, making the identification process significantly difficult.
The only items recovered from the site were a bag and a comb, a pair of shoes and a homework notebook kept inside it. The murder was initially being treated as a 'blind murder', which refers to cases that lack immediate witnesses, clear motives, or obvious suspects.
However, the police soon witnessed a major breakthrough after they managed to track down a teacher who taught the child whose notebook was recovered by them. Following this, the police arrived at the residence of the child's family, only to discover that they had been missing from home for several days.
This prompted the police to their network of informers and conduct raids. The family was ultimately found in Ujjain. They were detained and subjected to interrogation. The questioning purportedly revealed that Reena Kirar, one of the family members, used to be in a relationship with a man named Arun Patel.
After their breakup, the woman became friends with Pappu through Facebook. As they became closer, Pappu began visiting Reena’s home more often. This allegedly enraged Arun, who then allegedly hatched a deadly conspiracy.
On April 29, Pappu was allegedly lured to Reena's house, where Arun and his aide were already waiting for him. They allegedly beat the unsuspecting man to death with a baseball bat there. After the murder, the accused dumped his body along a highway, per the police.
In an attempt to evade arrest, they allegedly kept changing their locations. The baseball bat used in the crime, the car used to dump the body and multiple mobile phones have purportedly been seized from the possession of the accused.
