Five dead, 11 injured in crane collapse at workshop in Telangana's Rangareddy

A crane collapsed onto a shed where workers had taken shelter from rain at the NCC Central Workshop in Rangareddy district. Five workers were killed, 11 were injured and police have started an investigation into the incident.

At least five workers were killed and 11 others injured after a crane collapsed at the NCC Central Workshop in Shankarpalli mandal of Telangana’s Rangareddy district on April 27.

The incident occurred at Mahalingapuram village under Chevella limits during heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, according to Chevella DCP Yogesh Gautam.

Police said a total of 16 workers had taken shelter inside a shed adjacent to the crane to escape the rain when the structure suddenly gave way and crashed onto the shed.

Five workers succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining 11 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, with some in a coma.

The deceased have been identified as Ali Hussain, Nagendra Singh, Sajeem, Mukesh Kumar and Sonu Rajibi, all residents of Bihar.

A detailed investigation has been initiated, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings, the DCP said.
