Three people, including a five-year-old child, were killed and five others injured after a gravel-laden truck skidded off the road and overturned onto devotees gathered at a Hanuman temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district on Tuesday, police said.
The accident took place in Milak Chhavi village while devotees were attending a ‘sundarkand’ recitation under a temporary pandal set up beside the roadside temple.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Bhadauria, around 20-25 devotees, including women and children, were present at the gathering when the speeding truck lost control. The vehicle first rammed into a tree before veering off the road and crashing into the pandal.
The impact triggered panic and chaos at the site as devotees screamed for help and rushed to rescue those trapped under the overturned vehicle.
Police identified the deceased as Param Singh (70), Mahipal (42), and Aryaveer (5). Aryaveer had reportedly come to the village to visit his maternal grandparents, according to PTI.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, while further investigation into the incident is underway.
