Union Home Minister Amit Shah has submitted a formal letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan, listing nine instances of 'unacceptable conduct' towards the national song, Vande Mataram. The letter, a response to Congress MP Jairam Ramesh's request for authentication, details incidents from 2018 to 2025 involving leaders from Congress, SP, RJD, and NC. Specific instances include Congress MP Imran Masood and NC leader Agha Syed Mehdi refusing to sing the song on December 8, 2025, citing religious beliefs. Shah also cited Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq's 2019 refusal and his grandson Zia-ur-Rehman Barq's support in 2025. In his speech, Shah stated, 'Vande Mataram Ki swarn jayanti Hui unnis sau saintis tab Jawaharlal Nehrujane... Vande Mataram ke though tukde karkar usko though Antrotak summit karne ka kaam Congress party Ki'. He argued that the partition of the song led to the politics of appeasement and the partition of India.
