Anti-Sterlite protests in Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin turn violent

Locals protesting the proposed expansion of a Sterlite Coppers plant in a southern Tamil Nadu town clashed with police on Tuesday morning, and law enforcement officals used tear gas and lathis to disperse the gathered crowd.

One person was reported killed.

Locals have said the plant is polluting air and groundwater in the region. More than 10,000 people gathered to protest this morning, which marked the 100th day of a months-long movement.
