BJP can always have a new chief minister in Himachal Pradesh: Meenakshi Lekhi

It's no more neck-and-neck in Narendra Modi's Gujarat, with his BJP set to retain the state for the sixth straight term, according to the Assembly election results recent trends.

The trends so far are also close to the India Today-Axis exit poll, which had predicted 105 seats to the BJP and the Congress 75.

Not only Gujarat, BJP is also leading in Himachal, however, BJP's CM of Himachal Pradesh, PK Dhumal is trailing by over 1000 votes, whereas Sukhram's son Anil Sharma (BJP) is leading from Mandi. When asked whether BJP will have a new face in Himachal as Chief Minister, the party's leader Meenakshi Lekhi said that it doesn't matter who is winning or losing as long as the party is winning and they can always have a new Chief Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
