Car flipped after cattle came in front of convoy, Vikas Dubey tried to escape: UP Police

In its statement over Vikas Dubey's encounter, the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh said the gangster tried to escape while the police convey met with an accident.

The police said that accident happened as a "herd of cattle had come in front of the vehicle due to which the driver took sudden turn leading to accident". During this time, Vikas Dubey snatched a gun from one of the police personnel while tring to escape and even fired at the police party. This led the police to fire retaliatory shots at Vikas Dubey who was later killed.

"During the accident of a vehicle in the convoy on the National Highway under Sachendi police station limits in Kanpur district, the criminal snatched Ramakant Pachauri's pistol and tried to run while firing at the police party, this is when the police party retaliated in self-defence injuring Vikas Dubey who died during treatment," the STF's press note said.

In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
