India Marks 77th Republic Day With 'Vixit Bharat' Message And Military Might

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes to the nation, stating, 'May this occasion add renewed energy and enthusiasm in our collective resolve to build a Vixit Bharat.' The bulletin highlights several firsts for the 2026 parade, including the display of the S-400 missile system and assets used in 'Operation Sindoor' from May 2025. For the first time, an army animal contingent featuring Zanskar ponies and kites will march, alongside the debut of the Bhairav battalion. European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa attend as chief guests, signaling a major trade deal. The 90-minute parade at Kartavya Path features 30 tableaux and a seven-jet flypast, emphasizing India's 'Atma Nirbharta' and the 150-year anniversary of Vande Mataram.

TVK leader C Joseph Vijay on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu amid a sea of supporters, his friends and family, and several political leaders. Eight other TVK leaders were sworn in besides him, as ministers in the new government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attended the ceremony. The TVK managed to secure the Governor's nod to form the government after the Congress, the CPI, the CPI(M), the VCK, and IUML extended their support to the Vijay-led party for a colaition government.
