India plans to accelerate stalled hydropower projects in Jammu and Kashmir following the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. The government intends to start six hydropower projects, utilising water previously flowing to Pakistan. Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat stated, 'Not even one drop of India's water will go to Pakistan.' The move has sparked debate, with Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Arshad Madani's comments drawing criticism.

Eight other TVK leaders were sworn in besides him, as ministers in the new government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attended the ceremony. The TVK managed to secure the Governor's nod to form the government after the Congress, the CPI, the CPI(M), the VCK, and IUML extended their support to the Vijay-led party for a colaition government.
