Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal came down heavily on the Congress leadership, saying there has been no word from the party on its poor performance in the Bihar assembly election.
The Congress won 19 out of the 70 seats it contested in Bihar as part of the RJD-led grand alliance. The opposition alliance ended up with 110 seats, while the NDA retained power bagging 125 seats in the 243-member assembly.
Senior leader and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said Kapil Sibal's comments to the media criticising the leadership after the Bihar elections defeat has "hurt the sentiments" of party workers across the country.
Backing Sibal, Congress Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha said it is time to act now, else it will be too late.
Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam demanded that party leaders who were responsible for taking decisions in Bihar polls should be held accountable for the dismal show, but defended Rahul Gandhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
