Parliament Monsoon Session: PM Modi thanks MPs for chosing duty even during coronavirus pandemic

Addressing media ahead of the start of Monsoon Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the session is being held in unprecedented times. "Parliament session is beginning in distinct times. There's corona and there's duty. MPs chose the path to duty. I congratulate and express gratitude to them. This time RS-LS will be held at different times in a day. It'll be held on Saturday-Sunday too. All MPs accepted this."
PM Modi also expressed confidence that Parliament will unitedly give this message that the country is standing solidly behind soldiers guarding India's borders. In his remarks to media before the commencement of Parliament's monsoon session, Modi noted, in an apparent reference to the ongoing border row with China in Ladakh, that Indian soldiers are bravely discharging their duties while standing guard in difficult hilly terrains with snowfall expected in the coming days and weeks.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament begins from Monday with the Opposition all set to raise the issues of ongoing India-China standoff in Ladakh, handling of the coronavirus pandemic and economic slowdown. The Parliament session, scheduled to be held between September 14, 2020, and October 1, 2020, is being held amid unprecedented precautionary measures against Covid-19 due to a continuing spike in cases.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
