After change of guard, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar gets I-T notice | Watch

The Nationalist Congress Party on Friday claimed that the central probe agencies are targeting party chief Sharad Pawar after a change of guard in Maharashtra. Pawar received an Income Tax notice for his poll affidavits. The NCP questioned the timing of the notice that had been issued to Pawar. Meanwhile, Sena MP Sanjay Raut was also summoned by the ED. Raut is set to appear before the probe agency at 12 noon today.

Rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde was on Thursday sworn in as the 20th chief minister of Maharashtra, while BJP stalwart Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the deputy CM, capping a day of surprises and bringing a dramatic end to the ten-day-old political crisis in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
