NewsClick's official 'X' account suspended amid claims of spreading Chinese propaganda

The official account of online news portal NewsClick was suspended by Microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), days after it faced allegations of spreading Chinese propaganda in India. The company's account page currently says "Account suspended. Twitter suspends accounts that violate the Twitter Rules".

This comes in the wake of an investigation by The New York Times that revealed American billionaire Neville Roy Singham's financial ties with China and his alleged efforts to disseminate propaganda pieces on the country.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused NewsClick of being part of China's propaganda machinery. It remains unclear whether the suspension was prompted by a request from the government or its agencies, considering the recent revelations about NewsClick's links to China.

There is also an ongoing investigation against News Click by the Enforcement Directorate. The account suspension message simply states that the account violated the rules of the microblogging platform. Further clarity on whether the suspension was initiated by the government is awaited.
