President Ram Nath Kovind disqualifies 20 AAP MLAs

President Ram Nath Kovind today approved the Election Commission's recommendation to disqualify 20 AAP MLAs for holding office of profit.
This comes two days after the EC submitted its report after deeming the AAP MLAs as 'unfit' to continue as legislators. They had been appointed as parliamentary secretaries by Arvind Kejriwal government in 2015.
Later, the AAP government tried to push a Bill through Delhi Assembly, giving protection to parliamentary secretaries under Office of Profit law. But, the then President Pranab Mukherjee did not give his assent to the Bill.

PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
