Rajasthan crisis: Pilot camp to file plea in SC against speaker's notice

After removing Sachin Pilot as the Rajasthan Congress chief and as the Deputy CM in the Gehlot government, Congress is now making last-ditch efforts to bring the hurt rebel leader back into the party fold. Randeep Singh Surjewala went ahead and invited Sachin Pilot to come back, saying he is a family member. Sources have said Rahul Gandhi is also making efforts to placate Sachin Pilot and have asked Congress members to reach out to him.

Meanwhile, the party has asked Ashok Gehlot to refrain from attacking Sachin Pilot publicly with statements in the media. He has also been informed about the party’s decision to reach out to Sachin Pilot, who has made it clear that he will not be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Amid the hectic parleys, Sachin Pilot on Wednesday cancelled his much-hyped press conference at the last minute.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
