Remembering Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad, the man who shunned militancy to join Indian Army

Nazeer Ahmad Wani had, as a misguided youngster in the Valley, participated in launching terrorist attacks on security forces.

In 2004, he surrendered with his weapon and was recruited in the 162nd battalion of the Territorial Army - Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry.

On November 25 last year, he laid down his life for the nation during an encounter with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists. Before making the supreme sacrifice, Wani eliminated district commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

He has been awarded Ashok Chakra posthumously.

Video: Vijay swears in as Tamil Nadu CM amid roars, chants of frenzied crowd

TVK leader C Joseph Vijay on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu amid a sea of supporters, his friends and family, and several political leaders. Eight other TVK leaders were sworn in besides him, as ministers in the new government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attended the ceremony. The TVK managed to secure the Governor's nod to form the government after the Congress, the CPI, the CPI(M), the VCK, and IUML extended their support to the Vijay-led party for a colaition government.
