Journalist shot at in Ghaziabad in front of daughters

An Uttar Pradesh journalist was shot at by unidentified men in Ghaziabad near Delhi late Monday night, days after he filed a police complaint about harassment of his niece. The journalist, identified as Vikram Joshi, was travelling with his daughters on his motorcycle on Monday night when a group of men attacked him. Journalist Vikram Joshi was sprayed with bullets by the men in Vijay Nagar area of Ghaziabad. One of the bullets reportedly hit Vikram Joshi’s head. The UP journalist was moved to Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad where his condition is stated to be critical. Five people have been arrested in connection with the attack on the UP journalist, police said on Tuesday.

The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
