Watch: Patient allotted bed next to dead body in a hospital in Bengal

The ordeal of patients housed in an isolation ward at a general hospital in West Bengal’s Nadia district has invited sharp criticism of the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

A patient from North 24 Parganas who was shifted to Nadia after he exhibited symptoms of Covid-19, had no idea that he would have to spend the next day in close proximity with a dead body. Narrating his account, the patient said that he was taken to the isolation ward at the College of Medicine and Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital in Nadia district’s Kalyani.

Once allotted a bed, the patient found himself lying right opposite an unattended dead body. There was no change in the situation throughout Wednesday night until Thursday afternoon when the patient shot a video of his ordeal.
