Watch: What former Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad said on Kashmir issue, India-China border stand-off and more

Former Prime Minister of Malaysia Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamad in an exclusive interview with India Today's Foreign Affairs Editor Geeta Mohan made a clear distinction while raising the voice for Kashmir and its cause. While he emphatically defended his position on Kashmir but to questions on the treatment meted out to Kashmiris in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK), the former prime minister said the issue was not a "controversial" issue.

While he spoke of the presence of the Armed forces in Jammu and Kashmir. but to a question on cross border terrorism emanating from Pakistan, he said, "that is for you (India) to resolve the problem with Pakistan."

Dr Mohamad denied having supported Pakistan at the FATF when he was the prime minister. He said, "We never said anything about that. Generally, we are against terrorism. It has affected us too..."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hugged and honoured 98-year-old Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the earliest and senior most members of the BJP. The scene unfolded on the stage ahead of Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in as West Bengal's Chief Minister in Kolkata. PM Modi also touched Sarkar's feet and presented a shawl to him as a mark of respect. In 1952, Sarkar was arrested in Kashmir while he was accompanying Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the latter was marching to hoist the tricolour there. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya described the elderly party leader as "one of the earliest grassroots figures associated with the nationalist movement in post-Independence India."
