WHAT IS THE UDID CARD?
The Unique Disability ID (UDID) card, issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, serves as a standardized identification for persons with disabilities across India. It aims to simplify access to various government benefits and services, including travel concessions.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE UNDER THE NEW GUIDELINES?
According to the latest clarification, PwDs who hold a valid UDID card or those who are otherwise eligible for concessional fares—will now be considered valid passengers in designated Divyangjan coaches. This eliminates confusion around documentation and ensures smoother boarding for eligible individuals.
The rule specifically applies to unreserved coaches earmarked for Divyangjan passengers in Mail and Express trains. These coaches are designed to offer easier access and a more comfortable travel experience for persons with disabilities.
