Oracle lays off 12,000 in India, here is the severance package employees say they got
Oracle layoffs have reportedly impacted as many as 30,000 employees across regions. In India, about 12,000 Oracle employees, maybe in line for the dreaded pink slip. Here is how much these laid off employees are likely to get as part of their severance package from Oracle.

On Tuesday morning, thousands of Oracle employees received an email at around 6 am. Oracle’s leadership is said to have informed them that their services were no longer needed. It is believed that the layoffs have impacted as many as 30,000 workers or roughly 18 per cent of the company’s global workforce. In India, the number of employees getting the dreaded pink slip could be 12,000, according to reports.
It is believed that all impacted workers lost their jobs with immediate effect, irrespective of their role or tenure at the firm. But the sudden layoffs have raised questions on the severance package being offered to impacted employees. While Oracle has not revealed the exact severance package – or even the number of employees who have lost their jobs – publicly, laid-off staff is taking to social media and other forums to share some of these presumably intimate details with the rest of the world.
What is the Oracle severance package for Indian employees?
Oracle has not given any information on the severance package, but Oracle employees on the subreddit r/employeesofOracle have posted the package that they have likely received.
One redditor, who goes by the username u/Lavishness897, gave a detailed breakdown of the severance package received as part of Oracle’s India Development Centre (IDC) in Bengaluru.
The user claimed that the company was offering 15 days of base salary in addition to unused leaves. On top of that, Oracle was also offering 2 months of ex-gratia payment with an extra 15 days for every year served at the company. Lastly, impacted Indian employees are said to get 1 month of gardening leave salary along with a Rs 20,000 sum for Insurance.
The user wrote, “It is 15 days per year + annual leave +( ex gratia - additional 15 days per year + 2 months) + 1 month garden leave or in lieu salary + 20k for insurance Note: this is for IDC db org bangalore.”
Thus, if this post is accurate, Oracle is giving its Indian employees a total payout of 3 months and 15 days, plus the unused vacation days and the 15-day sums based on your tenure. The packages could vary depending on the type of role and hierarchy, though Oracle hasn’t given out these details yet.
In January 2026, Amazon had fired 16,000 employees from its global workforce, including India. As per impacted employees, the company was offering a severance package that included full pay and benefits for 90 days.
Oracle’s severance package to US employees
As per a report from Business Insider, Oracle has offered US employees up to 26 weeks of severance. This is calculated as four weeks’ base salary plus one week per year of employment, capped at 26 weeks. That is, you would be eligible for four weeks of base salary and an additional week for every year you have stayed at the company.
To give some context, other tech companies offer similar severance packages. Meta offered its US staff 16 weeks of severance pay with health coverage, while Block, run by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, is said to have offered 20 weeks plus additional benefits.
Why is Oracle laying off 30,000 workers?
Oracle is preparing for a major AI push. The company has signed a $156 billion deal to build AI data centres over five years, largely for OpenAI.
To establish these centres, the company is expected to spend aggressively to buy specialised chips for compute. As per reports, Oracle’s spending on such infrastructure is expected to reach $50 billion last year, up from $6.9 billion two years ago.
And layoffs may free up funds for such investments. According to investment bank TD Cowen, the layoffs could help Oracle free up between $8 billion and $10 billion in cash flow.
Oracle employed around 162,000 full-time staff globally as of May 2025. The layoffs have reportedly impacted divisions including Oracle Health, Sales, Cloud, Customer Success, and NetSuite. There are also rumours that Oracle may announce another round of layoffs soon. This could further help balance the company’s finances as it is reportedly carrying a debt of around over $108 billion.
