And the latest addition to the glamorous list is the svelte <b>Rekha Hande</b>, who was chosen Ponds Queen and May Queen in rapid succession in Bangalore, last fortnight. Hande, who is an enviable 36-25-36, has been gathering crowns by the dozens as if to store away for a rainy day. Last year, the beauty bagged the Spring Queen crown, the Miss Garden City crown followed by the Aeroprincess crown. She was also the runner-up at the Femina Miss India beauty contest last month. But Hande's passions go beyond just collecting crowns. She is a talented stage actress as well. She has played Ophelia in the Kannada version of <i>Hamlet,</i> staged by the dramatist, musician <b>B.V. Karanth</b>. Having over 20 performances with the folk theatre group of Karnataka. Yaksha-gana, Hande has been frantically chased after by the goggle-eyed producers of the Bombay film industry. But Hande's heart is somewhere else - she wants to set up an advertising agency, preferring to remain a "hidden persuader" rather than a hounded beauty.<br><br></li></ul><ul><li><div class="itg-mosimage"><div class="itgimage"><amp-img  src="https://akm-img-a-in.tosshub.com/sites/media2/indiatoday/images/stories/1981June/eye-catchers-2_112113033732.jpg" alt = "" height="425" width="650" class="" layout="responsive"></amp-img></div>Linette Dalmasso: Two wheeling wonder</div>Some tourists jet it down and some take to air-conditioned coaches - but<b> Linette Dalmasso</b> is a tourist with a difference. A professional singer in Paris, Dalmasso, a petite, sprightly woman, proclaims with a note of warning: "In Europe a woman's age is not asked," but making a concession, goes on to add: "You can say I am old enough at least to be a grandmother." Dalmasso has found an ideal way to beat the petrol crisis, cycling all around the world on her rather weather-beaten blue, 15-geared bicycle. She started her cycling trips in 1964, covering anything from 1,500 to 2,500 km over a scheduled period. Having covered a major part of Africa, the Middle East and Europe, she finally decided to come over to the "land of my dreams" - India. She flew down from Paris to New Delhi last February and immediately launched off on a four-month cycling tour of India, visiting Agra, Ajanta, Ellora, Varanasi, Calcutta, Assam and even Nepal. Last fortnight she was back in New Delhi, after having covered almost 3,500 km on her bicycle. Dalmasso, bright-eyed and remarkably fit for her age seemed overwhelmed by her experience in India. She exclaimed: "I was surprised to see that the people here are happier than we are back in the West." Indeed, the trend of hiring women film directors seemed to be catching on so fast, that it came as no surprise when Bombay's afternoon tabloid <i>Mid-Day</i> announced last fortnight that the latest to join the breed was actress <b>Shabana Azmi</b>. According to the paper, Azmi, always innovative in her professional style was taking over direction of <b>Vinod Pande's</b> latest venture <i>Yeh Nazdikiyan</i> in which she also starred. Pande, whose <i>Ek Baar Phir</i>, was a success last year, had obviously succumbed. The story suggested to Shabana's many talents by asking her to co-direct his new film with him. Azmi, generally a cool-tempered lady, flew into a rage on hearing about her alleged directorial venture, denying it vehementaly." "It's highly irresponsible of the paper to suggest that I am directing. I'm doing no such thing. They could have at least checked with me.
