Bahuguna: a match for the Congress(1)
It was an election that the nation would long remember. Marked by political violence, brutality, intimidation of voters and unabashed exhibition of both state and money power, it ranked as among the worst in the history of the country's parliamentary polls. During the 40-day campaign in the hilly parliamentary constituency of Garhwal in Uttar Pradesh, there were at least two deaths and kidnappings, and over 50 instances of alleged booth capturing by both the contesting parties.
