For Antulay it was undoubtedly a much needed reprieve from the agonising
September ordeal. During the entire month he hit bed each night with a
proverbial bomb ticking next to his alarm clock. A hot-line call from
New Delhi would have sealed his fate, put an end to his 16-month career
as Maharashtra's chief minister.
