Krishna Kriplani appointed chairman of National Book Trust
Richard Attenborough, director of the film Gandhi, was sued by Morarji R. Desai and trustees of the Navjivan Trust, in Bombay. The suit was filed for restraining the defendants from reproducing and/or authorising the reproduction of the literary works of Mahatma Gandhi for the film.
Died: M.R. Sherwani, 59, member of the Rajya Sabha, following a heart attack, in New Delhi. A leading industrialist, he was the president of the All India Muslim Educational Conference. He was also the member of the executive council of the Aligarh Muslim University.
