Dada: Rajkummar Rao begins filming Sourav Ganguly biopic at Eden Gardens. Pics

Actor Rajkummar Rao is all set to play cricketer Sourav Ganguly in his upcoming biopic, titled Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story. The actor shared the first picture from the set on social media while announcing that the shooting for the film has officially begun.

Rajkummar, on his Instagram handle, shared two pictures. The first slide featured a clapboard with the film's title – Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story. The second slide showed a picture of the "Sourav Ganguly Stand" at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The second photo was also shared by director Vikramaditya Motwane on Instagram.

While sharing the Instagram post, Rajkummar wrote, "And it begins... The one and only #DADA (sic)." Rajkummar, in an earlier interview with NDTV had said, "Now that Dada has already said it, let me also make it official – yes, I am playing him in his biopic."

The actor admitted to being "extremely nervous" about playing the iconic cricketer, but is equally excited about the opportunity. "I am nervous... It's a huge responsibility, but it's going to be a lot of fun," he added.

In February 2025, during a media interaction in Bardhaman, Sourav Ganguly had said, "From what I've heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the role (the titular role), but there are issues of dates, so it will take more than a year to hit the screens."

On the professional front, Rajkummar's quirky comedy, Toaster, alongside actor Sanya Malhotra is set to release on April 14, 2026 on Netflix. Directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary and produced by Patralekhaa, Toaster brings a vibrant ensemble including Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Farah Khan, Upendra Limaye, Vinod Rawat, Jitendra Joshi, and Seema Pahwa.

Rajkummar's last theatrical release was the crime-drama, Maalik (2025), featuring actors Manushi Chhillar and Prosenjit Chatterjee in key roles.
