How Alia Bhatt's Met Gala saree was created: 163 artisans, 1,965 man-hours

Alia Bhatt attended Met Gala 2024 wearing an exquisite Sabyasachi saree adorned with floral embroidery and jewels, perfectly complemented by matching headgear.

Explaining the theme of the event and her adherence to it, Alia wrote on social media, "It was a call to the Garden of Time - an ode to art and eternity. Timelessness is endless, and we acknowledge that things crafted with time and care can last forever. In our journey for an Indian interpretation of this universal theme, the outfit took on a life of its own."

Alia Bhatt mentioned that she and designer Sabyasachi drew inspiration for her saree from the past. She added, "We looked to the past as a guide for the future, drawing inspiration from the timeless sophistication of Indian nobility. We focused on intricate craftsmanship, incorporating hand embroidery, precious stones, along with elegant beadwork and fringes, distinctive of the 1920s fringe style. Our color palette pays homage to nature’s beauty, echoing the earth, sky, and sea."

For her hair and makeup, Alia wrote that she embraced delicate nostalgia. "An elevated coiffure embellished with intricately woven braids and soft freckles - a homage to time’s gentle caress," the actor mentioned.

However, creating the look was "fun and stressful in equal parts" for Alia Bhatt. She shared, "It has taken a collective effort of 163 dedicated individuals, including master craftspeople, embroiderers, artists, and dyers, investing a total of 1,965 hours to create this ethereal saree. As I wear this outfit, I feel incredibly grateful to embody this exquisite creation, a testament to boundless love and painstaking effort."

Concluding her note on social media, Alia Bhatt thanked everyone who helped her ace her look, including Anaita Shroff Adajania, Lakshmi Lehr, Makeup Artist Puneet B Saini, hair artist Amit Thakur, and Dolly Jain, who draped her saree.
