Par excellence: Aditya Dhar praises Dhurandhar choreographer Vijay Ganguly
Director Aditya Dhar has praised Vijay Ganguly for his choreography in the Dhurandhar films. Dhar also credited Ganguly for his dance direction in Shararat, one of the viral songs this season.

Filmmaker Aditya Dhar is riding high on the success of his latest release Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which has been enjoying a record-breaking run at the box office since its March 19 release. The blockbuster run of the film follows the success of its predecessor, Dhurandhar, which released in December 2025.
As appreciation pours in, the director has been sharing heartfelt notes for his team. Most recently, he praised the franchise's choreographer Vijay Ganguly, particularly for the viral hook steps in the Shararat song of the first Dhurandhar film.
Vijay Ganguly, brother of Anupamaa actor Rupali Ganguly, has taken social media by storm with his choreography in Shararat. Featuring Ayesha Khan and Krystle D'Souza, the dance number has quickly turned into an online sensation, with fans and creators recreating its signature moves.
In his detailed note, Dhar praised Ganguly’s instinctive approach and deep passion for his craft, highlighting how he transforms music into visual storytelling. He also felt it was in the choreographer's DNA, as he was the son of the late acclaimed filmmaker Anil Ganguly, known for classics such as Kora Kagaz, Tapasya, Trishna and Saaheb.
Dhar wrote, "Choreographer par excellence – Vijay Ganguly. With Vijay, it always begins with instinct. He doesn’t just hear music, he feels it and then translates that feeling into something you can see. What surprised me most on Dhurandhar was how much he thinks like a director. It made my job easier in ways I didn’t expect. Maybe it’s years of experience or maybe it’s in his DNA, being the great Anil Ganguly’s son, but there’s a storyteller in him that goes beyond choreography (sic)."
Dhar also credited Vijay Ganguly for encouraging the team to include Shararat in the film, despite his initial hesitation about a lip-sync dance track. The filmmaker recalled how that decision ultimately paid off, turning the song into one of his favourite moments in the film.
He wrote, "I still remember our conversations around “Shararat." I wasn’t fully convinced about doing a lip-sync dance track in the film. But Vijay just smiled and said, "Let’s go for it sir, it’ll be fun." That one push gave (composer) Shashwat (Sachdev) and me the confidence we needed. And what came out of it is honestly one of my favorite parts of the film (sic)."
Further praising Vijay’s dedication, Dhar noted that the choreographer brought not just technical brilliance but also emotional commitment to the set. From Didi to the high-energy Fa9la (Flipperachi) featuring Akshaye Khanna, Vijay infused every sequence with heart, detail, and passion, while maintaining a positive spirit even on challenging days.
The Dhurandhar franchise has been widely celebrated for its gripping narrative and performances, and its music and choreography have emerged as major highlights. From the viral dance like Shararat to Akshaye Khanna's effortless hook steps in Fa9la, the film’s dance moves have sparked a wave of online trends, with fans eagerly recreating them across social media platforms.
