Urvashi Rautela marks fifth Cannes appearance with bold sheer gown look

Actor Urvashi Rautela made a dramatic return to the red carpet at the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival on May 12, shutting down earlier speculation that she might skip the festival this year. The actor arrived at the opening ceremony in a heavily embellished sheer silver gown.

Speaking from the red carpet, Rautela reflected on her look and said, “Whenever I represent my country, I’m no more Urvashi, I’m India.” She added that she was proud to wear Vietnamese designer label JoliPoli Couture for the ceremony and called it a privilege to represent the country at Cannes 2026.

For the opening ceremony, Rautela opted for a striking custom creation by JoliPoli Couture. The outfit featured a body-hugging sheer silhouette with lavender-toned mesh detailing and intricate silver embellishments across the bodice.

The gown was adorned with crystals, beads and sculpted stone-work, creating an armour-inspired effect under the flashlights on the red carpet. Flowing cape sleeves added further drama to the ensemble.

She paired the look with a maang tika-inspired headpiece featuring a bird motif and shimmering tassels, along with oversized matching earrings.

This year marks Rautela’s fifth consecutive appearance at the Cannes Film Festival since making her debut in 2022. Speaking to Brut during the event, the actor said she felt “very proud” to represent India year after year.

“It's my fifth year in a row. I feel very proud, and I've always represented my country in the best possible manner,” she said, adding that the evening felt particularly special.
