Yash's Toxic may be action-heavy, but Kiara Advani says it's about modern love

While Toxic is packed with action and drama, Kiara Advani said the film's core lies in its take on modern love and relationships. The actor revealed that the Yash-starrer made her rethink the man-woman dynamic and pushed her creatively with its bilingual shoot.

Yash’s Toxic may promise high-octane action and spectacle, but for Kiara Advani, the film is equally about modern love and unconventional relationships. The actor said the Geetu Mohandas directorial changed the way she looks at the man-woman dynamic, describing it as “grey” yet liberating.

Speaking about the film with Bombay Times, Advani said Nadia, the character she plays, made her rethink what she knew about love and relationships.

“With Toxic, I think it completely changes the way you see the man-woman dynamic. And in fact, even for me, when Geetu Mohandas narrated the script to me, it took a while for me to understand that okay, this is also normal. It may be grey, it may be not in your conventional space, but there’s a certain liberation in love,” she said.

That moment of recognition stayed with her long after the narration ended. Advani recalled how, when Nadia was narrated to her, she was struck by how detached and liberated the character felt. She admitted she wished she could think in a similar way herself.

The actor also described the challenges of working in Toxic, particularly the process of filming in both English and Kannada. Each scene, she explained, was first shot in English until the take was locked, followed by the Kannada version.

As Kannada was not her native language, she had to memorise her dialogues the night before shoots, making the process especially demanding.

ABOUT TOXIC

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, the upcoming Kannada action film, which also stars Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth, has been postponed multiple times and so far, doesn’t have a release date. The film was shot in Kannada and English, but will be released in multiple languages.

Released on December 21, 2025, the first look at Nadia presents Advani set against a circus backdrop, balancing glamorous aesthetics with emotional depth that suggests grief and melancholy beneath the surface spectacle.

The film is produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations respectively.

The film was originally slated for a June 4 release, but was postponed as the makers are now focusing on global distribution and partnerships following its initial showcase at CinemaCon in April 2026.
