Happy Birthday Suriya: Looking back at his love story with Jyothika

Suriya and Jyothika have quite a fairytale-esque love story. On Suriya's 43rd birthday, we take a look at his love story with Jyothika. They met on the sets of their film Poovellam Kettuppar in 1999. Though Jyothika didn't know Tamil, she made an effort to learn the language and delivered the dialogues with perfection. Suriya was attracted to her dedication and ability to work hard.

In 2001, Suriya was passing by the sets, where Jyothika was filming. They started chatting and became close friends after their second meeting.

Jyothika recommended Suriya's name to director Gautham Menon for his next film, Kaakha Kaakha. It became one of the most successful films of Suriya's career,

Rumour has it that the two got engaged during Kaakha Kaakha. It is said that Suriya had to work hard to convince his parents.

Nevertheless, love prevailed, and their marriage took place on September 11, 2006.

The wedding venue was in Chennai, and the who's-who of the Tamil film industry attended the function.

The couple has two children, Dev and Divya.
