Win for Tamil Nadu: Genelia D'Souza calls Vijay's election victory proud moment
Actor Genelia D'Souza said Thalapathy Vijay's election victory is a proud moment for Tamil Nadu. She said the result reflected public trust in him and faith that he would meet expectations.

Actor Genelia D’Souza has reacted to actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay’s election success, calling it a victory for the people of Tamil Nadu.
Notably, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam crossed the crucial majority mark needed to form the government in the state on Saturday. The final hurdle for Vijay ended after the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi extended unconditional support to the TVK, helping the party touch the magic figure of 118 MLAs required to stake claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
TVK supporters erupted in celebration after VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan handed over the official letter of support to TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna.
Soon after the development, Congress MP Manickam Tagore posted on X, “118 reached”, along with a thumbs-up emoji.
GENELIA ON VIJAY’S POLITICAL WIN
Speaking exclusively to India Today, Genelia praised Vijay’s transition from cinema to politics and said people had placed enormous faith in him.
“I think it’s amazing. His victory is a win for the people of Tamil Nadu, and I’m sure he will live up to the expectations people have from him,” she said.
TVK emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with 108 seats, delivering a major political upset by defeating both the DMK and AIADMK, which have dominated the state’s politics since the 1960s.
‘HE IS DEDICATED TO WHATEVER HE DOES’
Genelia also spoke about her long association with Vijay. The two actors shared screen space in the 2005 romantic drama Sachein and later in the 2011 action entertainer Velayudham.
Recalling their bond, she said Vijay has always been sincere and deeply committed to his work.
“I’ve always shared a very good relationship with him, and I know how dedicated he is to whatever he chooses to do,” she told India Today.
VIJAY’S POLITICAL RISE UNDER SPOTLIGHT
Vijay’s entry into politics has remained one of the most closely watched developments in Tamil Nadu over the past year, given his massive popularity across South India and his strong fan base.
His election performance has now added momentum to that transition, with reactions pouring in from political leaders, film personalities and supporters across the state.
With the VCK’s backing now in place, Vijay appears set to formally stake claim to form the next government in Tamil Nadu.
GENELIA’S RECENT WORK
On the film front, Genelia was recently seen in Raja Shivaji, directed by Riteish Deshmukh, who also plays Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the historical drama.
The film traces Shivaji Maharaj’s reign and his conflict with Aurangzeb and has been produced by Mumbai Film Company and Jio Studios.
India Today gave the film three stars, saying: “Raja Shivaji ultimately lands as a film that remains true to Shivaji’s valour and story. It gets the scale, intent, and emotion right, but falters in narrative precision.”
