The trailer of Balan: The Boy, the upcoming psychological thriller directed by Manjummel Boys filmmaker Chidambaram, was released on Friday. Set to arrive in theatres on June 19, the film promises a tense and emotionally charged story revolving around a mother and her son as they struggle to escape a troubled past.

The three-minute trailer offers brief glimpses into a world marked by fear, secrecy and survival. A mother living under different identities, a child caught in mysterious circumstances and a relentless police pursuit form the backbone of the narrative.

The footage also hints at a disturbing family history involving the boy's grandmother, while raising questions about the child's connection to a murder case.

At its core, however, Balan: The Boy appears to be an exploration of the bond between a mother and her son, with the woman willing to go to extreme lengths to keep him safe.

The trailer closes on a haunting note, further amplifying the mystery surrounding the pair.

The film had an earlier screening at the Marche du Film section of the Cannes Film Festival 2026, where it reportedly received a positive response.

The makers have described the project as a story about identity, survival and the enduring connection between a mother and child.

Balan: The Boy also reunites Chidambaram with composer Sushin Shyam following their collaboration on Manjummel Boys. The film is written by Jithu Madhavan, best known for directing the acclaimed Fahadh Faasil-starrer Aavesham.

The technical crew includes cinematographer Shyju Khalid, editor Vivek Harshan and production designer Ajayan Chalissery.

Produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions and Shailaja Desai Fenn under Thespian Films, the film is slated for a theatrical release on June 19.
