Drishyam 3 director reacts to TV serial-like execution jibe, defends his choices
Mollywood director Jeethu Joseph responded to criticism over his films' technical quality and lighting style. He revealed that Drishyam 3 will have a fresh narrative and release on May 21.

Mollywood director Jeethu Joseph, known for his storytelling prowess evident in films like Memories and Drishyam, has addressed criticisms regarding the technical execution of his films. Audiences have often commented on the visual quality, likening it to that of television serials. In response, Jeethu Joseph has shared his perspective on these criticisms.
Over the years, his films have sparked discussions about their visual presentation. Some viewers have questioned the technical quality, often comparing it to television-style execution. Despite this, the director has maintained a consistent approach rooted in his creative preferences.
In a recent interaction with The New Indian Express, he explained, “In most films today, you can see a kind of colourful lighting style. When it comes to my films, that difference is not due to any fault of my team. It is because I prefer things to look more realistic." He also noted the influence of negative comments online, saying, "I have personally seen posts targeting certain individuals. There are some people who consistently write negative comments for every film."
Jeethu Joseph emphasised his preference for a grounded visual tone over a stylised presentation. The director of Drishyam 3 explained that choices related to lighting and production design are deliberate, aiming for authenticity in storytelling, even if this approach diverges from current industry trends.
The upcoming film Drishyam 3 will revisit the character of Georgekutty after several years. As Jeethu has mentioned in previous interviews, this instalment will take a slightly different storytelling route and will not be a thriller like the second part. The movie is set for release on May 21.
Meanwhile, Jeethu Joseph's recent films Mirage and Valathu Vashathe Kallan did not meet audience expectations, further adding to the discussions about his filmmaking style.
