A 28-year-old art department worker died after suffering an electric shock on the Jailer 2 set in Chennai. Police are investigating the suspected electrical leak, while the makers are yet to issue a statement.

A 28-year-old crew member died after suffering an electric shock on the sets of the upcoming Tamil film Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth, at a private film studio in Panaiyur, Chennai, police said. The deceased has been identified as Karthikeyan, who was attached to the film's art department.
According to preliminary information, as reported by PTI, Karthikeyan was engaged in art direction work and was helping erect a house-like set for the shoot when he suffered the fatal shock. Police said the incident took place on Thursday at the studio in Panaiyur.
Kanathur police said a first information report is yet to be filed. They added that an investigation is under way to determine the circumstances that led to the electrical leak.
The incident comes weeks after Sun Pictures, the production house behind the film, announced that shooting for Jailer 2 had been wrapped up. On April 21, the makers had shared photographs from the wrap-up celebrations, showing Rajinikanth and director Nelson Dilipkumar cutting a cake with the cast and crew. The makers are yet to issue a statement on the incident.
Jailer 2 is the sequel to Rajinikanth's 2023 film Jailer. Rajinikanth had earlier said that the sequel would release on June 12, 2026, though Sun Pictures has not announced a release date. According to the latest buzz, the film might be delayed a bit. According to a report by Pinkvilla , the team behind Jailer 2 had reportedly explored several release windows between June and August before deciding on September 4, aligning the film’s release with the Krishna Jayanthi celebrations.
The film is set to feature Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa reprising their roles from the first instalment.
